About the Role
The Climbing Route Setter is a member of Cougars Athletics and Recreation, which actively creates, promotes, and sustains an environment in which the Mount Royal University community is challenged and supported in pursuit of personal growth in sport and leisure. This is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-fine (35) hours per week.
Reporting to the Adventure Programming Supervisor, the Climbing Route Setter is part of the programs and services team. The Climbing Route Setter is responsible for creating fun and challenging roped climbing routes and bouldering problems in the MRU Climbing Centre. The priorities of a Route Setter are coordinating their routes and problems with the rest of the setting team and ensuring that the Climbing Centre meets the challenge level desired by our users. Varied climbing experience and a sense of creativity are integral to success in this position.
Familiarity with Yosemite Decimal System (YDS) and V-scale grading systems is an asset.
