Title: Business Development Manager

Company: Melbourne Football Club

Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

ABOUT THE CLUB

As the pioneers of Australian Football, the Melbourne Football Club holds a unique and celebrated place in sporting history. For 168 years, we have shaped the game – writing its rules, leading its evolution, and carrying the distinction of being the oldest professional sporting club in the world.

Our Demon Spirit is grounded in the values that define us: Trust, Respect, Unity and Excellence. These values guide our people, our decisions, and our ambitions. We are proud of where we’ve come from – and even more excited about where we’re going.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re growing and we’re on the hunt for a seasoned and ambitious Business Development Manager to join our Sales Department and play a critical role in growing both new and existing business.

In the newly created role, the Business Development Manager is responsible for driving commercial revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic sponsorship and digital partnership solutions, and securing partnerships that align with the Club’s objectives, brand values, and fan engagement ambitions.

Working closely with our internal teams, the role delivers innovative, data-driven commercial packages that combine traditional sponsorship rights with digital opportunities to maximise partner outcomes, audience engagement, and revenue performance.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the General Manager – Sales & Business Development, the key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Driving new sponsorship and partnership revenue through proactive prospecting, networking and lead generation activities.
  • Developing and presenting tailored commercial partnership proposals aligned to client objectives and the Club’s strategic priorities.
  • Selling integrated sponsorship packages across Club assets including match day signage, hospitality, events, digital platforms and content.
  • Managing the end-to-end sales process including pitching, negotiation, contracting and onboarding of partners.
  • Collaborating with marketing, content and other departments as relevant to develop innovative and commercially effective partnership solutions.
  • Maintaining accurate sales pipelines, forecasting and CRM reporting to support commercial planning and revenue targets.
  • Representing the Club at corporate functions, networking events, match days and industry engagements to strengthen business relationships.
  • Staying informed on AFL industry trends, sponsorship innovation, fan engagement strategies and digital media developments.

Given the nature of the Club's operations, flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including match days, events and other Club-related activities is required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a commercially driven sales professional with at least five years' experience in the advertising, media, sports, or entertainment industries, and a proven track record of securing new business opportunities and driving revenue growth. With an established network of industry contacts and strong relationship management skills, you excel at identifying opportunities, building partnerships, and delivering commercially successful outcomes.

You are a strategic and creative thinker, and you are passionate about developing compelling sales proposals that align with client objectives and deliver measurable results. You are an exceptional communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Most importantly, you take pride in delivering innovative, high-quality solutions that create value for partners and contribute to organisational success.

WHY JOIN THE CLUB
