DESCRIPTION

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Athletics Equipment Operations Coordinator. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world’s premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. The UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program is a member of the Big West Conference, an NCAA Division I conference with 11 academically and athletically nationally proclaimed institutions.

The Athletics Equipment Operations Coordinator assists in the oversight and delivery of equipment and team services for NCAA Division I athletic programs under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Operations. The incumbent is expected to comply fully with all applicable University, Big West Conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

This position supports the development and implementation of equipment operations policies and procedures, including ordering, receiving, inventory management, equipment issuance, storeroom access and utilization, laundry services, equipment maintenance, and security. The incumbent assists with assessing team equipment and apparel needs, meeting with coaches and staff, researching equipment innovations and upgrades, interpreting budget allocations, and coordinating the procurement of athletic equipment and apparel.

The Athletics Equipment Operations Coordinator assists with the supervision and training of student employees engaged in equipment maintenance, issuance, inventory control, and laundry operations. Responsibilities include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments while ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.

The incumbent works closely with Intercollegiate Athletics personnel, including coaching staff, sports information, marketing, compliance and eligibility staff, facility managers, and game management personnel to support practices, competitions, and special events. This collaboration helps ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with campus policies and applicable conference and NCAA regulations. The position also provides support to Athletics External Relations and Game Management staff as needed to address equipment and laundry service needs.

The incumbent is expected to possess strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; a professional and approachable demeanor; and a demonstrated commitment to the safety, well-being, and success of student-athletes.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Working knowledge of program activity and best practices. Knowledge of the developmental needs of college students, and how the involvement in intercollegiate athletics assists in the fulfillment of the educational mission of the University. Working knowledge of student services and resources within Intercollegiate Athletics and on a university campus. Demonstrated skill and ability to network and make effective use of available resources.

  • Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Demonstrated writing skills to prepare correspondence, to draft guidelines and reports.

  • Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Demonstrated experience with specialized vendor applications for ordering merchandise, databases, search engines, calendar system and the applications within MS Office Suite. Willingness and commitment to regularly maintain and update technology skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate functions and activities while handling multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to function efficiently and productively as a team member with all the interpersonal skills required to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with a individuals in Student Affairs and administrative campus units.

  • Ability to follow a work schedule that revolves around student athletic competitions and practices. Flexibility in organizing, establishing and modifying work priorities without compromising work quality and productivity. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends periodically, to adjust work assignments accordingly, and plan work schedules of student assistants.

  • Ability to research and evaluate the quality and availability of athletic products, compare vendors and prices, verify specs, calculate tax and estimate freight charges.

  • Strong event logistical skills, with ability to follow up and confirm arrangements, inspect physical area to ensure that no details are overlooked, and that all staffing is in place.

  • Experience in planning, delegating and coordinating tasks.

  • Demonstrated skill in reviewing reports, gathering data, performing basic math calculations. Familiarity with fundamental budgeting processes, so as to assist coaches and athletic administrators with estimating past expenses and projecting future expenses.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established safety guidelines. Ability to identify and anticipate risk management issues in areas of event management, facility usage, and the security of university property.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Work schedule may include some evenings, weekends and holidays.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,500 – $87,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.14 – $41.81

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
