Location

Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.

Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Job Summary

The University of West Georgia is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Athletics Academic Coordinator. The candidate must support the mission of the University of West Georgia, the UWG Athletic Department, the United Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The University of West Georgia is a Division I member of the United Athletic Conference and the NCAA. The candidate must be energetic, professional and committed to improving the University of West Georgia student athlete academic performance standards. This position serves as one of the connections between the athletic department and university offices in an effort to enhance the experience for our student athletes prior to arriving to campus, while on campus and after graduation. Staff member will provide project genuineness and warmth as a service-oriented communicator. This position works directly with and reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Excellence.

Responsibilities

1 –

Work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Excellence in preparation and coordination of Orientation processes for incoming students. Review and evaluate student athletes’ academic progress, timely declaration of a major, and progress toward graduation as they relate to maintaining NCAA eligibility.

2 –

Work with academic and advising departments and/or personnel to evaluate the eligibility of potential student athletes and to monitor the academic performance of current student athletes to maintain NCAA eligibility. Advise student athletes of academic requirements and consult with professional academic advisors regarding appropriate class schedules for student athletes. Coordinate and implement priority class registration for all student athletes.

Review academic records of student athletes to determine the need for academic support services and create educational plans for student athletes requiring academic support. Coordinate and implement study hall plan for individual teams. Coordinate with sport program coaches and student athletes to arrange appropriate tutorial services through the Academic Success Center.

4 –

Serve on NCAA Eligibility Certification Committee during Fall, Winter and Spring certification periods.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience

A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Minimum of one-year experience in teaching, counseling, academic advisement or academic record assessment as a full time or graduate assistant employee. The qualified candidate will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to relate well with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff. Candidate should have the ability to use a high level of critical thinking skills and can accurately advise students in many aspects of their college experience. The candidate should possess the ability to anticipate issues, properly assess pertinent data, and develop/implement practical solutions to complex issues.

Master’s Degree

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with Teamwork Compliance and Recruiting, EAB, and Slate is preferred. Master’s degree in Sport Administration, Integrated Wellness, Counseling, Education is preferred. Three years of experience working in an NCAA Division I or II academic support office.

Proposed Salary

$40,796 – $43,000 annually. Paid on a monthly basis.

ABILITIES

Physical Requirements Office Environment – Work normally performed in a typical interior work environment.

KNOWLEDGE

Experience with Student Information Systems such as Banner SIS. Knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional bylaws, policies and procedures.

SKILLS

Candidate should possess competent computer aptitude and skills to perform their daily tasks using a typical office software package such as Microsoft Office.
