Responsibilities:
Job Summary
Under clinic leadership and in collaboration with orthopedic and sports medicine physicians, the Clinical Athletic Trainer (AT) delivers evidence-based care in the ambulatory setting. Core duties include intake and focused musculoskeletal assessment, concussion baseline and post injury testing, care coordination, therapeutic instruction, DME fitting, casting/splinting assistance, peri procedural support, EHR documentation (including scribing when assigned), injury prevention education, and athlete navigation support—all performed in accordance with the BOC Standards of Professional Practice and Arizona statutes/rules.
Essential Functions
Clinical Care and Workflow:
- Room and prepare patients; obtain history/mechanism of injury and functional goals; record vitals and intake data; document in the EHR.
- Perform focused musculoskeletal assessments; contribute clinical findings that inform provider diagnosis; implement physician directed therapeutic interventions and home exercise instruction.
- Administer and interpret baseline concussion tests per clinic protocol, document results and coordinate follow-up.
- Conduct post-concussion testing including symptoms, cognitive assessments, and balance/vestibular screenings; provide education regarding return to learn and return to play progression.
- Assist with procedures: cast/splint application/removal, brace fitting, suture/staple removal, wound care, injection preparation, and post procedure instruction.
- DME management: measure, fit, educate, and document braces, boots, slings, and supports; ensure accurate charge capture.
- Care coordination: facilitate imaging, therapy referrals, scheduling, pre /post operative education, and reinforce return to activity criteria.
- Scribing/documentation support during physician encounters as assigned, in compliance with Joint Commission standards.
- Assist with patient care and navigation for athletes, ensuring they understand their injury, treatment expectations, scheduling, follow up requirements, and coordinating their care within their school, club, collegiate, or community program as appropriate.
- Patient education on injury prevention, symptom monitoring, safe progression, and home exercise adherence.
Clinic Operations & Quality:
- Maintain exam/procedure rooms, supplies, and DME inventory, support clinic flow and teamwork.
- Ensure documentation meets HIPAA and safety/compliance standards, complete required HIPAA and OSHA trainings.
- Participate in process improvement and quality initiatives supporting service line goals
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree – Required
- Master’s Degree Athletic Training may be substituted with experience and NATA BOC certification – Preferred
Experience
- 1 year Experience in a related role – Preferred
License and Certifications
- RehabATC – Athletic Trainer Cert – Upon Hire – Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Upon Hire – Required
