Roosevelt Academy is a private K–12 school in Oklahoma City serving neurodiverse learners kids with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety learning disabilities, 2E, and the brilliant, unconventional minds traditional schools too often fail.

We’re looking for adults who lead with relationship, hold high expectations, and meet kids where they are. If you’ve coached, mentored, served, or trained and you’ve watched a young person change because someone finally believed in them this work will feel familiar.

The Role

You’ll walk alongside small groups of Roosevelt students through their day providing motivation, regulation support, confidence-building, and the kind of consistent, calm adult presence that changes a kid’s whole arc.

This isn’t classroom teaching. There’s no lecture from the front, no pacing guide, no grade-driven motivation. The work is human: building trust, coaching through hard moments, celebrating real progress, and showing up every day with the same energy.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Mentoring small groups of students through daily learning, providing the encouragement and steady presence kids need
  • Co-regulating with students during hard moments staying calm when they can’t, helping them find their way back
  • Leading movement breaks, regulation activities, and the physical components of the school day
  • Building confidence in students who have been told for years they’re too much, not trying, or behind
  • Working as part of an integrated team clinical staff, behavior specialists, all on the same page
  • Optional: leading before-school or after-school programming at the same hourly rate

What You Will NOT Be Doing

  • Standing at the front of a classroom delivering lectures
  • Writing lesson plans or following a pacing guide
  • Disciplining kids for behaviors that are symptoms of overwhelm
  • Coaching a competitive team where winning is the goal this is mentorship, not athletic working alone Roosevelt is genuinely team-based

Who You Are

We hire for belief first, credentials second.

Strong candidates often come from:

  • Coaching youth sports, adaptive athletics, Special Olympics, Miracle League, or inclusive recreation
  • Military service, especially with experience working alongside youth or in mentorship roles
  • Personal training, yoga, or movement instruction particularly with clients across ability levels
  • Camp counseling or outdoor education in inclusive or therapeutic settings
  • Youth ministry, mentorship programs, or Big Brothers/Big Sisters
  • Behavior technician (RBT) work or psychology/social work backgrounds

What every candidate must bring:

  • Genuine belief that neurodiverse kids are not broken
  • Calm under pressure when a kid is dysregulated, frustrated, or shutting down
  • Willingness to be coached and trained on Roosevelt’s practices full paid onboarding provided
  • Ability to pass a background check
