SUMMARY

The Athletic Field Maintenance Supervisor plans, coordinates, and oversees all athletic field operations to ensure safe, high-quality playing conditions for all user groups. Responsibilities include field preparation, maintenance, inspections, and repairs, as well as managing staff and coordinating field rentals and reservations to support both internal programming and external user needs.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize, and supervise athletic field operations, ensuring safe and playable conditions for games, practices, and events.

  • Oversee turf maintenance, irrigation systems, field renovation, and seasonal maintenance schedules.

  • Lead full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.

  • Respond to daily operational demands and staffing needs, coordinating work assignments and priorities.

  • Administer athletic field rentals and reservations, balancing internal programming needs with external user requests.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for a diverse range of user groups including leagues, organizations, schools, and community partners.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, risk management procedures, and applicable regulations.

  • Manage operational budgets and expenditures, participate in budget development, and track costs to support accurate cost center reporting.

  • Evaluate field conditions, usage trends, and maintenance practices to inform operational efficiencies and capital improvement planning.

  • Coordinate cross-departmental communication with Parks, Facilities, Finance, and other divisions for integrated service delivery.

  • Respond to emergencies, operational issues, and customer concerns with independent judgment and effective resolution.

  • Prepare reports, documentation, and records related to field conditions, staffing, rentals, expenses, and performance metrics.

  • Support long-term athletic facility planning focused on sustainability, lifecycle management, and future service needs.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Turfgrass Management, Facility Management, or closely related field and 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in parks or a related field or any combination of education/certifications and years of applicable experience.

  • Ability to obtain applicators license through TDA within 6 months of hire is required.

  • Professional affiliation preferred.

  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certifications preferred.

  • Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.

  • The city may consider all relevant education and experience in determining a candidate’s minimum qualifications.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Expertise in turf management, irrigation systems, field layout, and safety standards.

  • Proven ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff across multiple employment levels.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and make independent operational decisions.

  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost tracking, purchasing, and vendor coordination.

  • Proficiency with office software and scheduling or reservation systems.

  • Ability to obtain applicators license through TDA within 6 months of hire is required.

The employee works in work in a dynamic outdoor environment that requires the employee to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Ability to work on weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the user groups and leagues is required.
