Position: Athletic Director
– West Lincoln Middle School
Position Available: June 1, 2026
Reports To: Principal, County Athletic Director
Salary/FLSA:
- Local supplement for athletic director while maintaining current assignment.
- Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement) and local supplement for athletic director.
Job Qualifications / Requirements /
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
- Hold or be eligible to obtain a school bus license for North Carolina.
- Experience in organizing and operating all aspects of an athletic program preferred.
- Previous coaching experience as Head Varsity Coach.
- Experience leading others, supervising and collaborating with adults.
- Experience managing or working with an athletic program budget.
Goal:
- Provide opportunities for all enrolled students to participate in extracurricular athletics that develop physical skills, build a sense of worth and competence, and foster an appreciation for the enjoyment and lifelong value of sports.
- Build strong relationships with community stakeholders, including families, local organizations, and supporters of the athletic program.
- Model and promote calm, professional behavior in all situations, while teaching and practicing effective conflict resolution skills within athletic programs.
- Integrate, model and measure leadership development as directed by the Leader in Me framework into each sport and the overall athletic program by promoting fair play and good sportsmanship while developing student leaders through teamwork, accountability and character.
Duties:
- The athletic director will provide a list of all equipment to the principal on a yearly basis.
- Oversight and implementation of all coach evaluations.
- Meet with parents as requested.
- Ensure all sports are treated equitably and advocate for all sports.
- Provide a means for all coaches to have input in the needs assessment for each sport.
- Create an athletic budget and meet as needed with the principal to review all athletic accounts, including athletics, individual sports accounts, and booster accounts. Develop the budget based on average gate receipts of the past 3–5 years. Present to administration for approval and submit to the county athletic director. Include financial procedures such as: preparation and supervision of the athletic budget;
direct sale of tickets; proper cash handling and receipts; deposits in appropriate accounts; equitable distribution of booster donations.
- Develop a master schedule for all competitions covering the school year. Submit to principal and to the Office of the Lincoln County Schools Athletic Director. Ensure equity in facility use.
- Develop schedule to ensure equal access to weight rooms for male and female athletes.
- Coordinate with the Lincoln County Schools Department of Transportation to schedule activity buses, ensuring buses are returned clean and on time.
- Coordinate with maintenance for repair and upkeep of all athletic facilities.
- Provide the principal with eligibility lists for all sports, ensuring compliance with residency, attendance, transfer guidelines, promotion guidelines, concussion paperwork, and physical dates.
- Enforce NCHSAA rules and regulations for all sports at every event.
- Ensure coaches have pre‑season paperwork completed and submitted.
- Work with coaches to hold appropriate try‑outs, announcing dates and times, ensuring equal access and measurable rubrics.
- Address facility needs and maintenance of locker rooms, fields, and weight rooms with coaches.
- Confirm attendance of head and assistant coaches at required rules sessions and coursework issued by NCHSAA.
- Provide security at all events, ensuring appropriate staffing for crowd control per Fire Marshall recommendations.
