ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

The Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for overseeing and managing the high school’s athletic programs. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. The Athletic Director directs athletic activities, supervises the coordination of athletic events and manages athletic department budgets. The Director provides leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the area of the athletic program for the high school. The Director should be able to participate in revenue development planning and fundraising. This professional serves as liaison with sports conference or district administrators, such as those from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. The athletics director will be responsible for assessing current and prospective coaches based on team goals, achievements and other parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Coordination
  • Direct and supervise all athletic activities and events.
  • Foster a positive environment for athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, coaches, and community members to enhance the athletic program.
  • Budget Management:
  • Develop and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Revenue Development:
  • Participate in fundraising initiatives and revenue development planning.
  • Build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to support athletic programs.
  • Liaison Role:
  • Serve as the primary contact for sports conferences and district administrators, including the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and policies related to high school athletics.
  • Coaching Assessment:
  • Evaluate current and prospective coaches based on team performance, goals, and achievements.
  • Provide support and professional development opportunities for coaching staff.

  • Knowledge of high school sports regulations and compliance requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhering to the Louisiana High School Athletics Association rules, policies and sports seasons dates
  • Attending and completing LHSAA yearly clinics, meetings and requirements
  • Responsible for building athletic teams and communicating with coaches
  • Promoting fair play amongst all sports
  • Taking care of sports equipment
  • Completing administrative duties
  • Planning coaching sessions
  • Mentoring coaches
  • Having tryouts and posting rosters of team members
  • Assuring that Practices happen
  • Resolving team issuesü Liaising with schools, instructors and tutors
  • Communicating with families
  • Monitoring the grades of the student athletes on the team daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Providing tutorial services to students if necessary
  • Monitoring the attendance of the student athletes daily, weekly and monthly
  • Qualifying students academically to participate on the teams
  • Creating and submitting student budgets for approval (Draft due 2nd week of February, Final 2nd week of March)
  • Must successfully win 60% of scheduled competitions (min. for contract renewal over 2-year period)

Skills

  • Proven experience in higher education teaching or education administration within a university setting.
  • Strong background in managing athletic programs or sports teams with a focus on student development.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with students, staff, coaches, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to university athletics and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to motivate teams, foster collaboration, and lead by example in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment that supports student engagement and success through athletics.

Pay: $55,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
