Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, this employee is responsible for coordinating assigned athletic activities. Duties include developing, planning, organizing, and supervising diversified athletic programs. Duties also include assisting with other department programs as needed. Reports to the Athletic Superintendent.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Act as main nighttime supervisor for programs and activities
  • Train, schedule, assign and oversee tasks and part‑time employees
  • Effectively communicate and execute nightly tasks
  • Handle and document incidents and accidents
  • Oversee cleaning of parks and facilities at the conclusion of the night programs
  • Disseminate equipment and information to volunteer coaches
  • Effectively communicate with volunteers and patrons
  • Enforce rules, regulations and policies
  • Fix and/or report maintenance needs to facilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and administers quality sports programs with the Athletic Superintendent
  • Informs the community of the Department’s programs and events by publicizing programs on the website, social media, downtown digital sign, and by direct communications
  • Ensures that coaches and officials are obtained for the various programs and that all are properly trained and certified as applicable
  • Ensures that department facilities and equipment is properly used for such programs and maintained in good safe condition
  • Maintains current first aid and CPR/AED certification and ensures safety measures are taken at all times
  • Is responsible for proper medical equipment at facilities and events (First Aid Kits)
  • Ensures that programs are kept within budget guidelines and monitors expenditures accordingly
  • Maintains participation records and submits monthly reports to the Superintendent
  • Ensures that building and grounds used for program purposes are adequately maintained and safe
  • Responsible for evaluating programs and personnel to ensure community satisfaction and the effectiveness of individual programs and events
  • Assists with the formation of Department policy relating to the programs, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of division equipment
  • Responsible for concession purchasing and part‑time staff
  • Assist in Athletic Department budgeting

Minimum Training and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation (or related field) with experience in recreation programming or a related area; or any equivalent combination of education, training, experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities
  • Self‑starting with duties and responsibilities
  • Computer skills with Microsoft, Canva, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass drug screening
