Summary
The Assistant Volleyball Coach at Schoolcraft JR/SR High School is responsible for supporting the head coach in developing and implementing a competitive volleyball program for student-athletes. This seasonal position requires a passionate individual who is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The assistant coach will work closely with players to enhance their athletic abilities while promoting personal growth and academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practice sessions, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to players, helping them improve their technical skills and understanding of the game.
  • Support the head coach in preparing for competitions, including scouting opponents and developing game plans.
  • Foster a positive team culture that encourages sportsmanship, respect, and collaboration among players.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, expectations, and player progress.
  • Assist in the organization and supervision of team events, including practices, games, and tournaments.
  • Monitor the academic performance of student-athletes and encourage them to maintain a balance between athletics and academics.
  • Help maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
  • Attend coaching meetings and professional development opportunities as required.


Requirements

  • Previous experience in coaching or playing volleyball at the high school level or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of volleyball techniques, strategies, and rules.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, players, and school staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends during the volleyball season.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in physical education, sports management, or a related field is preferred.
