Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the softball program with a focus on pitching instruction, scouting, recruiting, game administration, and academic monitoring of student athletes. Serve as a positive role model and represent Villanova in a first‑class manner. Perform all duties in compliance with University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Student‑Athlete Development:
    • Assist the Head Coach with the planning and supervision of training and skill development for student‑athletes.
    • Provide technical instruction and individual training sessions with an emphasis on pitching.
    • Develop and execute practice plans that prepare the team physically and mentally.
    • Assist in preparing the team for games, including strategy and daily practice organization.
    • Prepare scouting reports on opponents.
    • Monitor academic progress and eligibility of student‑athletes.
    • Assist in the rehabilitation of injured athletes as directed by medical staff.
    • Coordinate physical conditioning with Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning staff.
  • Program Administrative and Fiscal Management:
    • Assist in planning and ensuring a fiscally sound program, including travel arrangements and equipment needs.
    • Submit expense reports via Concur.
    • Supervise student‑athletes while traveling for competition and training.
  • NCAA Compliance:
    • Ensure program compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
    • Coordinate compliance education and paperwork for student‑athletes.
    • Submit required compliance forms, including practice logs, recruiting folders, and official visit forms.
    • Monitor academics and ensure eligibility standards are met.
  • Recruiting:
    • Assist in managing recruitment activities for the program.
    • Evaluate and recruit prospective student‑athletes who excel academically and athletically.
    • Conduct home visits, phone, email, and letter communications with prospects and parents.
    • Plan and direct scouting of potential athletes at recruiting events.
    • Manage on‑campus visits per university and NCAA policies.
    • Assist in scholarship allocation and aid in the application process for admissions and financial aid.
  • Academics, Service, Marketing, Public Relations, and Development:
    • Monitor academic progress of student‑athletes.
    • Assist in developing fund‑raising events for the program.
    • Support marketing and public relations efforts to promote the program, department, and university.
    • Design community service events aligned with Villanova ideals.
  • Perform other duties and assistance with special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Formal

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Specific Job Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
    • Extensive knowledge of softball.
    • Understanding of Villanova’s mission and philosophy regarding student‑athletes.
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    • 2+ years of competing and/or working in a collegiate softball program, preferably at the Division I level.
  • Work

    Skills:

    • Excellent organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; ability to interact effectively with student‑athletes and evaluate prospects.
    • CPR training required within the first 3 months.
  • Equipment Knowledge:
    • Proficiency with personal computer applications.

Physical Requirements and Work Hours

  • Some lifting, carrying equipment, and walking.
  • Significant travel.
  • Significant night and weekend hours.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $47,500 – $56,900. Salary determined based on qualifications, department budget, market data, and internal equity. Eligible for tuition assistance and other benefits as per part‑time staff policy.
