Position: ASSISTANT OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL COACH

ASSISTANT OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL COACH

Instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success while receiving instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, and self‑confidence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements assigned sports program following policies and regulations approved by the Board of Education.
  • Interprets and implements rules and regulations of the school, league, and New Mexico.
  • Refs requests or grievances to Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate authority.
  • Establishes philosophies, skills, and techniques to be learned by staff.
  • Designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of overall program.
  • Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by promoting clinic attendance according to local clinic policy.
  • Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and analyzes program effectiveness.
  • Maintains discipline, addresses grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, providing transportation, and meeting requirements for tournament and special sport events.
  • Assists in preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
  • Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
  • Advises the Athletic Director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
  • Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
  • Ensures equitable and safe treatment of student athletes at practices, games, and while traveling.
  • Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Completes paperwork as necessary within areas of responsibility following established procedures.
  • Determines discipline policies and delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary; and contacts parents regarding student discipline and eligibility concerns.
  • Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
  • Participates in the budgeting function with the Athletic Director by establishing requirements for the next season, including equipment guidelines.
  • Ensures accountability for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
  • Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records.
  • Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
  • Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for pre‑season meetings.
  • Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting and promotes the sport outside the school through news media or other feasible means.
  • Maintains good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Previous successful coaching or competitive experience.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree (may be waived).
  • Valid New Mexico Teacher’s license (may be waived).
