Assistant Cross Country Coach Jobs in North Clarendon at Mill River Unified Union School District

The Assistant Cross Country Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in providing a positive, safe, and competitive environment that promotes the physical, mental, and personal development of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will help teach proper running techniques, training principles, sportsmanship, and teamwork while supporting the overall goals and philosophy of the Mill River Cross Country Program.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAthlete DevelopmentAssist in planning and conducting daily practices that develop endurance, strength, speed, flexibility, and racing strategy.Teach proper running mechanics, warm-up and cool-down routines, injury prevention, and recovery techniques.Encourage goal setting, accountability, and continuous improvement for all athletes regardless of ability level.Help prepare athletes for league, invitational, and championship competitions.Team LeadershipFoster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.Promote sportsmanship, integrity, respect, and teamwork.Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes both on and off the course.Encourage academic success and responsible decision-making.Meet Day ResponsibilitiesAssist with meet preparation, athlete supervision, course warm-ups, and race strategy.Help monitor athletes during competitions and ensure proper supervision at all times.Assist with equipment management and transportation of team supplies as needed.Support the Head Coach with meet logistics and post-race responsibilities.CommunicationWork collaboratively with the Head Cross Country Coach to implement the program’s philosophy and training plans.Maintain positive communication with student-athletes, parents, school staff, meet officials, and the Athletic Department.Communicate schedules, expectations, and program information professionally and promptly.Administrative ResponsibilitiesAdhere to all Mill River Union High School, district, league, and Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) policies and procedures.Assist with maintaining equipment and inventory throughout the season.Attend coaches’ meetings and professional development opportunities as requested.Complete any required documentation assigned by the Athletic Department.QualificationsPrevious coaching and/or competitive running experience is preferred.Knowledge of cross country training principles, race preparation, and athlete development.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes in a positive and encouraging manner.Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and educational athletic environment.Required CertificationsCurrent or willingness to obtain NFHS Coaching Certification.CPR/First Aid Certification.Successful completion of all district-required background checks and employment requirements.Any additional certifications required by the State of Vermont or Mill River Union High School.ExpectationsThe Assistant Cross Country Coach will: Uphold the mission and values of Mill River Union High School and the Athletic Department.Support the Head Coach in building a competitive, positive, and student-centered cross country program.Represent the school with professionalism, integrity, and good sportsmanship.Place the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes at the forefront of all decisions.Help create an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
