Assistant Coach, Men’s Hockey Jobs in Toronto, Canada at MDA

Purpose

The Assistant Coach will support the management of the Varsity Sports Program within the Athletics & Recreation department. The Assistant Coach is primarily responsible for the coaching student athletes, competitions and ensuring specific administrative duties are completed. This is a professional coaching position and all the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of York University, the Department of Athletics and Recreation, OUA, U Sport and specific PSO/NSO’s.

Education

High School Diploma.

Experience

  • Previous coaching experience at club/high school or higher (preferred college/university level)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract, First Aid Certification
  • Sport-specific knowledge as reflected by coaching certification. Member in good standing with applicable sporting organization or PSO/NSO

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Efficient organization and creative thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student-athletes
  • Ability to work independently

Additional Notes

  • Required to produce Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the University
  • Required to attend all applicable OUA competitions, U Sport competitions, and championship as required by the Head Coach, Manager, or specified designate
  • Physical activity in demonstrating techniques.
  • May require handling of objects that can weight up to 70 lbs. Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Working in all weather conditions. Exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
  • Standing throughout the day, using a loud voice at practices and events, physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.
  • May have to travel to on and off campus games, work alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends. Position may be required to work indoors and outdoors during both hot and cold weather. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
