AmeriCorps Bike Educator (Part-Time) – Fit4Kids
Are you ready to spend a meaningful year making a real difference in the lives of children across the Richmond region? Fit4Kids is looking for passionate, community-minded individuals to join our AmeriCorps team as a Part-Time Bike Educator. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in youth development, education, and community health while helping children build confidence, independence, and lifelong healthy habits.
As an AmeriCorps Bike Educator, you will serve with Fit4Kids to promote physical activity, safety, and healthy lifestyles among elementary school students throughout Richmond. In this role, you’ll teach youth how to ride a bicycle, develop safe riding habits, and build confidence as both cyclists and pedestrians, helping them gain lifelong skills while increasing access to active transportation.
Position Details
Term:
September 1, 2026 – July 31, 2027
Schedule:
Part-time, flexible scheduling available Monday–Friday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Service Hours:
Approximately 20–25 hours per week (based on program needs and member availability).

Key Responsibilities
- Teach bike riding and bicycle safety skills through our Learn to Ride program
- Support active recess, after-school wellness sessions, and community engagement events
- Track attendance and collect program evaluation data
- Accurately log service hours using the AmeriCorps OnCorps timekeeping portal
- Participate in National Service Days (September 11 and January 19)
- Serve as a positive role model for youth and help foster an inclusive, encouraging learning environment
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older at the start of service
- High school diploma or GED required (or commitment to obtaining one during service)
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
- Must pass a National Service Criminal History Check, including FBI fingerprint check, state criminal background check, and National Sex Offender Public Registry check
- TB screening required for members serving at Henrico sites
- Reliable transportation to travel to multiple school sites throughout the Richmond region
- Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and physically able to perform bike instruction and recess facilitation
- Passionate about working with children, promoting physical activity, and encouraging healthy lifestyles
