Role Description The Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Kingston and is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial management for the Corporation. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining general ledgers, reconciling bank and account balances, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. The role involves preparing financial statements, management reports, and budget analyses, as well as monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant regulations. The Accountant will support audit processes, maintain proper documentation, collaborate with departmental teams on financial matters, and contribute to continuous improvement of accounting procedures and financial controls.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and finance skills, including proficiency in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements applicable to public sector or media organizations.
- Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret financial data for decision-making.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work constructively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) or progress toward certification is an asset.
- Prior experience in public broadcasting, government, or not-for-profit sectors is advantageous.
